Infosys Chandigarh Concludes Digital Makeathon 2.0

Rewards students for developing innovative smart city solutions

Chandigarh - September 23, 2019:Infosys Chandigarh Development Centre (DC) recently concluded Digital Makeathon 2.0, a competition aimed at bridging the gap between industry and academia. The Digital Makeathon offers an opportunity to developers, designers, architects and mentors to come together and brainstorm to create innovative, theme-based solutions for real life problems using digital technologies. The theme for this year was ‘Smart City - the way of the future’.

15 teams from top public and private engineering colleges of the region participated in the competition that took place at the Infosys Chandigarh DC. The event structure constituted of a panel discussion on the theme, followed by solution development and evaluation. The participating teams engaged in expert talks, as well as a session on challenges faced by different government departments in enabling smart cities.

The panel discussion focused on characteristics of smart city – smart energy, smart data, smart transport, smart infrastructure, connected devices and connected mobility. The platform gave an opportunity to the participants to interact with subject matter experts from Infosys, academia as well as the industry.

The solutions submitted by the teams were evaluated by a jury which includedMr. Ajay Srivastava, Additional Director and Center Head STPI (Software Technology Park of India) - Mohali, Ministry of Communication & Information Technology, Government of India,Mr. Vivek Verma, State Informatics Officer, NIC,Dr. Mahesh Devnani, Assistant Professor of Hospital Administration, PGI, Chandigarh,Mr. Amitabh Manu, Delivery Manager and Lead Artificial Intelligence andMr. Vishal Manchanda, Principal Tech Architect, ICETS at Infosys.

The team from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh emerged as winners of the Digital Makeathon. The team presented a solution for facial recognition and received a trophy and a reward of INR 10,000. The members of the winning team were: -

The first and second runners-up of the contest were from Maharaja Surajmal Institute of Technology, Delhi and Delhi Technical University, Delhi. They were awarded for their solutions in ‘smart citizen sensing’, and ‘traffic prediction’ respectively.
